Abstract

This BEPE project is related to the master's research "Chilean architecture as a national brand: state involvement, its interests, and perspectives," whose main objective is to contribute to the history and critical theory of Chilean architecture by analyzing the national agents and the associated logics that contributed to the increased visibility and prestige of this architectural production on the international stage since 1990, with a special focus on the state. The state appears to have interests in the field of architecture not only for the export of services but also for the construction of a national brand. Since the master's program is already in progress, marked by historiographical gaps (especially regarding its central object, the book "Blanca Montaña: Arquitectura en Chile," 2013, and its editorial variations inaccessible in Brazil), conducting a research internship abroad emerges as an opportunity to collect data and theoretical foundations on the state's presence in the field of architecture, as well as the logics and political contexts explaining state interests and perspectives in this promotion. In addition to accessing essential sources for the master's program, the research internship abroad requested here is also structured to: bring research closer to representative architectural projects of the studied period; promote dialogues, reviews, and internationalization of the research with prominent figures in Chile; expand the network of contacts and dialogues of the research group in which the current master's program is located - Culture, Architecture, and City in Latin America (CACAL); and enhance academic rigor through the chosen institution, the Faculty of Architecture, Design, and Urban Studies at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (FADEU), which not only has recognized international scientific prestige but also has strong historical ties to the period under study.
