Abstract

The requested Direct Doctorate scholarship will be linked to the activities of Preparation phase/ Aim 2: To identify the opportunities and challenges at the systemic, organizational and individual level that might support or hinder the implementation and uptake of the retail food environment initiatives. Considering the need to build implementation plans for the food retailers based on the "food-store systems" - defined as the networks of actors and interactions involved in providing food to consumers, through retail at a certain scale (local, national or global) - the project will develop a co-creatively design of the intervention, conducted in three increasingly in-depth design phases (Middel et al 2021). The framework, guides and data collection tools developed by Middel et al (2021) will be translated and adapted for this study. Based on outcomes of this process, the municipality-specific implementation plans will be developed and a series of training sessions with food retail workers that have engaged in the process will be conducted. At the end of this co-creation process, an implementation plan will be created to address barriers, leverage strengths, and codify important supportive processes, such as training, supervision, and monitoring, that will facilitate success in the final phases. A goal is to establish a positive implementation climate in the setting where the food retail environment initiatives will be delivered so it is supported
