Abstract

TThis project aims to develop and study structural composites of epoxy resin, fiberglass and hybrid buckypaper of carbon nanotubes and graphene, for applications in the aerospace and automotive areas. Epoxy resin is a thermostable polymer used for structural applications. Glass fibers have a good relationship between mechanical properties and costs. Buckypaper is a thin surface formed by carbon nanomaterials. Hybrid buckypapers will be produced with three different concentrations of carbon nanotubes and graphene, and two different types of graphene. The buckypapers will be characterized by various techniques, such as XRD, FT-IR, Raman, electrical resistivity, nitrogen gas adsorption, SEM-FEG and TGA. Three types of laminates will be prepared with pre-impregnated fiberglass and epoxy resin: a reference laminate, a laminate with buckypaper films and a cured laminate with buckypaper as a resistive element. The laminates will be characterized by SEM-FEG, TGA, DSC, DMA, electrical resistivity, ILSS and vibration tests. The effect of the surface energies of the materials on the interface adhesion of structural composites will also be evaluated. BEPE is planned to be held at the University of Central Florida in the United States of America.
