Abstract

The generation of urban solid waste (USW) in Brazil significantly increased between 2010 and 2019, rising from 66.7 to 79.1 million tons annually. In the state of São Paulo, this increase was even higher, with USW generation increasing from 18.8 to 23.1 million tons. The implementation of the National Solid Waste Policy (PNRS) in 2010 has guided efforts to address this complex challenge. The project "Cocreation, Education, and Dissemination of Solutions for Solid Waste Reduction in Food Services" aims to structure, validate, and disseminate a method for the analysis and effective management of solid waste in the food service sector, aligned with the CCD's mission to generate innovative solutions for post-consumer waste, based on circular economy principles and Sustainable Development Goals. Secondary project objectives include understanding the perceptions of consumers and food delivery establishments regarding solid waste, structuring a method for USW analysis and management, cocreating innovative solutions, and disseminating knowledge. Expected impacts encompass a USW analysis and management model, reports on USW generation trends, engagement among various stakeholders, and sharing practical solutions for USW reduction, especially in the context of packaging and food waste in food delivery services. The project aims to contribute to scientific, technological, and sectoral advancement by creating value for the agri-food chain while addressing real societal concerns in alignment with FAPESP's expectations for CCDs. In this case, the project ensures originality and relevance by proposing consumer-centered solutions and innovations, as well as education and sustainability dissemination, and the reduction of the environmental impact associated with solid waste management.
