Abstract

This study aims to investigate how new cohabitations (which can be seen as proxies for marriage) are related to labor market transitions, with a particular focus on how this connection influences women's decision-making and their outcomes in the labor market. In this BEPE proposal, we also seek to understand how changes brought by COVID-19 pandemic affect both labor and marriage markets. To achieve this, an extended dynamic model of the marriage market and labor supply based on Goussé, Jacquemet and Robin's (2017) will be employed alongside data from the Continuous Brazilian National Household Survey (PNADC) from 2012-2021. By conducting this analysis, the study seeks to offer insights into the intricate relationship among marriage, family structure, and women's engagement in the labor market.
