Abstract

The objective of this project is to study the feasibility of applying distance-based metrics, such as condition indicators, in order to contribute to tool condition monitoring (TCM) in milling processes. The condition indicators will be applied to signals obtained from inspected samples using acoustic emission, based on the cosine similarity method. Correlations between the signals and the analyzed tool condition will be performed to extract behavioral patterns related to flank wear, thus validating the proposed method. It is anticipated that this research will contribute to increased productivity, reduced manufacturing costs, optimized tool life, decreased risks of significant damage in drilling operations, and prompt actions upon damage occurrence.
