Abstract

Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is one of the most frequent complications of pregnancy, affecting approximately 18% of pregnant women. Over the last years, the incidence of GDM has risen due to modifications of diagnostic criteria, increased obesity rates and reduced physical activity among women of childbearing age, and delayed pregnancies. Among the complications related to GDM, excessive fetal growth stands out as a significant consequence, contributing to the escalating rates of cesarean sections. The high prevalence of cesarean sections in Brazil is cause for concern and warrants investigation. Particularly in private hospitals, this rate exceeds 80%, well above the recommended guidelines set by the World Health Organization. This underscores the importance of monitoring, comprehending, and intervening to improve this scenario. In this context, Robson's classification has been a strategy to stratify risk factors and identify target groups for intervention aimed at reducing cesarean rates.Despite the established association between GDM and a heightened risk of cesarean section, as well as the increasing interest in using the Robson classification to comprehend cesarean section rates, there is a scarcity of global literature on cesarean section rates among different Robson groups in women with GDM. Furthermore, there is a lack of national data on this subject. Therefore, the primary objective of this project is to analyze the rates of cesarean sections among different Robson groups in pregnant women with GDM monitored at HC-FMUSP, as well as the risk factors for this mode of delivery within this group of pregnant women.
