Abstract

Studies in the state of São Paulo has mainly focused the juvenile and adult of Dendrobranchiata marine shrimp, significantly expanding the knowledge of this group. Penaeoidea has five families with 388 worldwide recognized species, Aristeidae (26), Penaeidae (229), Sicyoniidae (52) and Solenoceridae (81), most of which are benthic and marine; many of them has ecological and commercial interest. There are three planktonic larval stages, nauplius, zoea (protozoea and mysis) and decapodite (also called postlarvae in penaeids); depending on the taxon studied, the number of stages within each phase can be variable. In Penaeoidea, there are 5 to 6 naupliar stages, 3 protozoans, 3 mysis and a variable number of decapodids (1-9). On São Paulo coast, only three of the 18 species had their larval development completely described. This project aims to identify larvae in the final stages of Penaeoidea marine shrimp sampled in the plankton integrating morphology and DNA barcoding as identification tool. For this, we intend to compare the data obtained with the sequences in the literature in order to verify the morphological identification; then, obtain DNA fragments (COI and 16S), submit them to the BLAST system in order to check the identity; positioning these sequences in maximum likelihood trees with related species aiming the genetic identification. We expect to contribute to the increase of Dendrobranchiatabiodiversity, to redescribe or describe the final larval stages of marine shrimp and, we want to discover new occurrences for the state of São Paulo.
