Abstract This research project presents a qualitative case study on the work of retired judge Angélica de Maria Mello de Almeida at the 12th Criminal Law Chamber of the São Paulo Court of Justice (TJSP). By mapping the technique, reasoning and repercussions of Angélica's decisions, as well as her attitude towards the legal community, this study aims to identify what makes her systematically progressive. To this end, interviews will be conducted with TJSP judges, members of the São Paulo Public Prosecutor's Office, public defenders from the state of São Paulo and members of the São Paulo State Coordination of Women in Situations of Domestic and Family Violence (COMESP), who will indicate important rulings produced by Angélica, which will be reviewed using qualitative models for analyzing judicial decisions. Once the evidence that Angélica was a "different voice" in the TJSP has been strengthened, the research will use the knowledge acquired in the literature review on gender issues in the judiciary and feminist judgments to analyze the data collected in the other methodological stages. In this way, this project hopes to strengthen the present evidence of Angélica's feminist and guarantor stance, reconstructing models of interaction that gave recognition to her "different voice". | |
