Abstract

The Inter-American Center for Housing and Planning (CINVA), based in Bogotá, was created in 1952 with the aim of promoting interdisciplinary debate about housing and planning in Latin America. The relationship between the categories rural house and favela is hypothesized as fundamental to the theory of regional planning in the 1950s in Latin America, taking as a focus the performance of the Colombian institution. During its 20 years of existence, CINVA has promoted several projects within Colombia - with the Regular Housing Courses (CRV) - and also in the rest of Latin America - through courses such as the Regional Rural Housing Courses (CRRs), the Courses Training in Self-Construction (CAAs), and the Housing Course within the Urban Context (CVCU). The work proposes to relate between countryside and city in Latin America through the proposed categories, bringing together Latin American themes, professionals and institutions through the Courses held by the Center.
