Abstract

Introduction: Peripheral Facial Paralysis (PFP) is a pathology of a neurological nature resulting from the total or partial interruption of the nerve impulses sent by the facial nerve in its peripheral segment, causing partial or complete paralysis of the facial mimic muscles. In mastication, functionally, the muscles of mastication, tongue and facial mimicry, especially the buccinator and orbicularis oris muscles, act synergistically. For speech, the balance of the stomatognathic system is fundamental. Any neuromuscular alteration will cause a functional imbalance in the system. The number of publications on PFP within speech therapy is very limited and the vast majority ofpatients affected by PFP have important changes in mastication and speech functions, it is important to analyze what the literature brings about these topics. Objective: To carry out an integrative literature review raising articles that address chewing and speech disorders in individuals with PFP in the flaccid and sequelae phases. Method: This is an integrative literature review research guided by the question: What are the chewing and speech disorders in individuals affected by PFP, in the flaccid and sequelae phases, using the acronym PECO as a search strategy.Scientific productions written in Portuguese and English will be included, without restrictions regarding publication time, and works with preliminary results and/or with incomplete contentwill be excluded. The databases will be searched: PubMed / Medline, Lilacs, ScienceDirect and Scielo. All data will be placed in an Excel table for further analysis and discussion of results.
