Abstract

Ti-6Al-4V is the most widely used alloy for dental implants, however, the literature shows its limitations in terms of the incompatibility of its elastic modulus with bone tissue and possible cytotoxicity depending on the release of its aluminum (Al) and vanadium (V) ions. Therefore, alternative alloys such as beta-titanium have been proposed in order to find the best combination of biocompatibility and mechanical performance, such as Ti-35Nb-7Zr-5Ta (TNZT). These alloys can be used as raw materials for the production of printed implants, which are advantageous over machined implants because they allow parameters such as the printing angle to be altered in order to obtain surfaces with the desired physical and mechanical properties. The aim of this study will therefore be to compare in vitro the influence of chemical composition and printing angle on the physical properties of disks printed by selective laser melting. For this purpose, disks (Ø 10.0 mm x 1 mm) will be made, divided into G1: Ti-6Al-4V 0º, G2: Ti-6Al-4V 45º, G3: Ti-6Al-4V 90º, G4: Ti-35Nb-7Zr-5Ta 0º, G5: Ti-35Nb-7Zr-5Ta45º and G6: Ti-35Nb-7Zr-5Ta 90º, which will be analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS), wettability, surface free energy, and surface and linear roughness by confocal laser microscopy. The data obtained will be subjected to parametric or non-parametric tests according to the distribution of the data (±=0.05).
