Abstract

Introduction: Knee osteoarthritis results in degradation of the cartilage of the underlying bone, its main signs being pain, morning stiffness and loss of function. To prevent the progression of this pathology, electrophysical and biological agents can be applied to stimulate symptom relief and delay the disease. Among them, the use of laser photobiomodulation (PBM) and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) are effective resources that can be better explored. Objective: To evaluate and compare the effects of PBM and PRP, combined or isolated, in an experimental knee osteoarthritis model in rats. Methods: An in vivo experiment will be carried out with 32 Wistar rats, in which an intra-articular injection of MIA will be applied to the right knee to induce KOA. Then, the rats will be randomly distributed into 4 groups, namely: Control Group, Laser Group, PRP Group and Laser + PRP Group. The application of the infrared laser will be 808 nm, with fixed parameters, and the PRP will be 50 µL of PRP in the intra-articular region (infiltration type) after preparation. Histological and immunohistochemical analyzes will be carried out to evaluate the modulation and repair capacity of the techniques. Statistical analysis: Prism 8 software (GraphPad, USA) will be used to perform statistical analyses. The significance level adopted will be 5% (pd0.05).
