Abstract

Bacterial antimicrobials resistance is a public health concern worldwide, greatly compromising therapeutic options. Bacteria from the ESKAPE-E group (Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacter spp. and Escherichia coli) represent one of the greatest clinical risks, especially for hospitalized patients, as they often present multidrug resistance. In this context, the ATLAS program has been created to surveil and monitor the situation of multidrug resistance in the world, and, since 2020, the Hospital de Base (HB) of São José do Rio Preto has participated in the study. As the institution is of vital importance in the health scenario of the northwest of São Paulo and nearby regions, it is essential to know the pattern of resistance to antimicrobials in isolates from the ESKAPE-E group that affects the patients. Therefore, the objective of the present study is to compare the panorama of resistance in HB isolates with those isolated in Brazil. To this end, antimicrobial susceptibility results will be evaluated in ESKAPE-E isolates obtained from 2020 to 2022 at the institution, and the main genes responsible for resistance to the most important drugs (beta-lactams and/or glycopeptides) for each bacterial group will be investigated by PCR.
