Abstract

Attacks by phytonematodes are among the main phytosanitary problems affecting common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.). Root-knot nematodes of the genus Meloidogyne are possibly the agricultural pests with the greatest geographic distribution, with emphasis on M. incognita, one of the pathogens causing the greatest economic damage worldwide. Alternatives for controlling nematodes involve practices that are not viable in the field. Chemical control is inefficient, high-cost, and can cause significant environmental impacts, making it necessary to develop resistant/tolerant cultivars that are scarce for the bean plant. The following proposal is related to the analysis of the triple interaction of common bean - Fusarium oxysporum - M. Incognita. From the results of this project, it is expected: to advance the understanding of the genetic mechanisms involved in the complex interaction between nematodes x Fusarium wilt in the common bean infection process and to characterize cultivars in terms of double resistance.
