Abstract

The purpose of this research plan is to apply for a Research Abroad Grant (BPE) from FAPESP, to take sabbatical leave from August 2024 to February 2025 at the EHESS, CRBC, Mondes Américains. I have been working with Brazilian socio-educational thought for about three decades and, since 2020, I have been supported by a CNPq Research Productivity Grant to develop research on Florestan Fernandes (1920-1995), with the aim of dialoguing with the critical fortune on the author, studying his work and his works and mapping the positions he occupied in the fields of Sociology and Education, as an academic, intellectual, writer and parliamentarian. At the moment, I am working with the 150 sound files that comprise the totality of Florestan's participation as a federal deputy in the 1987-1991; 1991-1995 terms, with the aim of analyzing them from the political-parliamentary context of the time and identifying the set of positions and oppositions between groups fighting for hegemony in the running of the state through socio-educational public policies. The expected results aim to extend the academic collaboration networks, submit the findings to the appreciation of other research centers, academic institutions and researchers, broaden the debates on the limits and possibilities of Sociology and Education to intervene constructively in the democratic order, expose aspects of the Brazilian reality that may point out similarities or singularities with other national contexts and seek international production partners.
