Abstract

Initially dedicated to the involvement of civil society entities in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic in the Paraisópolis region of São Paulo, Brazil, the undergraduate research project was renewed with a focus on the topic of local food security policies. As part of an international research partnership on community responses to the pandemic, led by the advisor in the country, we conduct a comparative investigation into the activities of three collective kitchens in São Paulo and Toronto, Canada. The research internship is dedicated to collecting data related to one of these cases and to strengthening cooperation among the partnership teams, coordinated by the co-supervisor of this project. Thus, we aim to contribute to the enhancement of collective kitchens' role as a strategy to combat food insecurity during public health emergencies.
