Abstract

As many anthropologists have highlighted, it is certain that Brazil and the Amerindian peoples played a fundamental role in the imagination of Claude Lévi-Strauss. What is often left aside, however, is the role that cities have played in the panorama of his thinking. In this sense, this project aims to investigate the ways in which we can think about the notions of city and urban phenomena with and from the trajectory and intellectual production of the French anthropologist Claude Lévi-Strauss. We seek to explore the reflections on cities outlined by Lévi-Strauss and experiment with his conceptual apparatus to think, from an anthropological perspective, the notions of cities and urban phenomena. The questions of this project are, for example: what theoretical and methodological gains would we have by carrying out the stoning of a classification of what he himself conceives as a "cidade", "reino urbano" and "cidade selvagem"? Important notions that reveal the interactions between humans and their built and inhabited spaces from a relevant perspective that offers us reflective inspirations in the face of the impositions of the so-called "Anthropocene". Therefore, we consider that investigating cities following a Lévi-Strauss trajectory of thought is to put the notion of human in question. For this reason, it is important to understand what it means to Lévi-Strauss: the city, the human and Anthropology itself.
