Abstract

The cinema produced in the brazilian Amazon, located in the state of Pará, has undergone significant changes in recent years. These changes encompass issues that bring visibility to the socio-diversity of the region while also marking the identity recognition of the cultural creators from the Amazon (as they self-identify and comprise a plurality of identities such as river dwellers, indigenous peoples, quilombolas, urbanites, etc.). In this regard, for this post-doctoral project, I propose to produce three ethnobiographies of "Amazonian filmmakers" to reflect epistemologically on this new audiovisual praxis, tracing the mobilizations and social representations of film producers (with a focus on documentary films). Thus, drawing on the field of Social Anthropology, my aim is to understand the aesthetic construction and content(s) of these productions that valorize particular aspects of regional culture. Based on this research, which will encompass both written and audiovisual formats, the native category of "Amazonian Cinema" will be critically examined to contribute to the understanding of the interculturality of film producers within the researched context.
