Abstract

Several secondary metabolites have already been isolated from Asteraceae species by theNPPNS research group in its more than 50 years of existence. Some of these isolatedhave exhibited significant biological activities, such as anti-inflammatory, analgesic and cytotoxic.cytotoxic.Professor Pirani, during his long period of research, describes in greatdetails of various species of Brazilian flora. Another great Brazilian botanist, Prof. JoãoSemir, developed his career working mainly with species from the Asteracea family.identified several species, with an emphasis on the Lychnophora genus. Shortly before his deathhis work led to the characterization of a new species that has not yet been described. In this context, the NPPNS, the group most active in the chemistry of the genus in the country, was invited to incorporate thechemical analysis of this new species and thus be able to contribute to the tribute that Prof. Semirintended to pay tribute to Prof. Pirani in his lifetime. Thus, the combination of the data already obtained with the chemicalchemical profile of this species will result in a work of higher quality that could achieve a better publication.better publication. To this end, we intend to apply spectrometric techniques to complex mixturecomplex mixtures, associated with molecular network studies. This approach hassignificant progress in characterizing the chemical profile of Lychnophora species, one of the main species investigated by our group.species investigated by our group. Thus, this proposal will contribute tothe chemical knowledge of the family, specifically of the genus Lychnophora and itsspecies, as well as standardizing the MALDI-MS and MS/MS technique for such characterizations andidentification of extracts and fractions. In summary, the main objective of this project is to characterize the chemical profile of thisnew species through the application of the LC-MS/MS technique combined with the tools of theGNPS platform for the identification and characterization of these components in extracts and fractions.
