Abstract

Cancer is a public health problem whose rates have increased worldwide. Its diagnosis and treatment are associated with suffering and several practices have been used to humanize this experience, such as active listening to the patient's demands; the adequacy of treatment to individual needs; encouraging active participation and autonomy. These strategies favor engagement, with a positive impact on treatment. The objective of this study is to understand the experience and perception of cancer patients about how much they feel participative and heard in their treatment process. This is an exploratory, descriptive, cross-sectional and qualitative research, with a convenience sample made up of people treated at the Cancer Institute (ICA) of a highly complex teaching hospital in the interior of São Paulo. Participants will be invited to participate in the study and those who accept will sign an Informed Consent Form and participate in a recorded interview. This study is expected to understand the experience and perception of patients and help the team to improve the care provided.
