Abstract

There is clear interest and concern in the literature to analyze children's spelling. However, few studies have investigated the various relationships between phonological classes and the spelling of children in the early stages of acquisition. To fill this gap, this study aims to investigate the accuracy of the spelling of Brazilian Portuguese plosive phonemes in the different syllabic positions occupied by those consonants. The following objectives will guide the research: (1) to investigate the hit/miss ration in plosive phonemes according to the syllabic positions they fill; (2) to identify the pattern of error distribution, also according to those positions; and (3) to compare changes in the hit/miss ratio according to school grade. To carry out this research, 193 texts will be analyzed from 67 children enrolled in elementary school classes at a public school in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. It is expected that the results of this proposal will provide a better understanding of the relationship between children's spelling and plosive consonants, and will also provide support for pedagogical and clinical practices with children's writing.
