Abstract

The present research project is related to the Regular Grant supported by FAPESP (2023/02413-2) entitled "Intelligent Systems for Monitoring and Fault Diagnosis in Industrial Assets based on the Industry 4.0 concept." Carbon fiber reinforced composites (CFRP) have been widely used in aerospace and automotive applications due to their high strength and low density. However, they face challenges related to delamination, which can compromise their structural integrity and lead to critical failures. This project aims to explore the feasibility of applying signal processing techniques and feature extraction based on acoustic emission signal energy to contribute to detecting failures in CFRP composite materials. Specifically, the project seeks to detect transients and events related to the initiation and progression of delamination in these structures. The proposed approach will be validated through experimental analysis based on acoustic emission signals corresponding to different conditions of structural failures in composite materials. It is expected that the results will contribute to automating the detection of failures in CFRP materials, thereby improving the lifespan of these structures.
