Abstract

Dinorá de Carvalho (1895 - 1980) was a Brazilian pianist and composer of great importance in the 20th century. Her body of work, although still insufficiently disseminated, encompasses decades of productions within concert music. Currently, her scores can be found at various libraries and collections around the country, with many of these pieces not having been cataloged in her official catalog issued by the Ministério de Relações Exteriores in 1977. One of these works is the orchestral version of Jogos no Parque Infantil Dom Pedro II, that can be found in the Coleção Dinorá de Carvalho at the Coordenação de Documentação de Música Contemporânea (CDMC) at Unicamp, under the catalogue number DC008. This documental source exhibits, with different levels of completion and conservation, the various orchestral manuscripts of the work, having being published only in its solo piano version by the Irmãos Vitale publisher in 1940. Therefore, the goal of the project is to realize a critical edition of this work, submit a publication proposal to the Coleção CIDDIC/CDMC and to bring a greater comprehension of the musical production of Dinorá de Carvalho. For the methodology, Flávio Carvalho's thesis "A contribuição dos periódicos na pesquisa bibliográfica sobre Dinorá de Carvalho" (Carvalho, 2022) will be used in order to constitute the composer's biographical trajectory, and the book "Música sacra e religiosa brasileira dos séculos XVIII e XIX: teorias e práticas" (Figueiredo, 2017) for the creation of the critical apparatus and the critical edition. The expected final result is that the project assists on the widening of the national orchestral repertoire, as well as the academic literature on it, and helps with the dissemination of the composer's body of work in the 21st century.
