Abstract

This project aims to develop a study of the transition from childhood to adulthood of female characters in two short stories by Clarice Lispector: "Restos do Carnaval" (1968) and "Felicidade Clandestina" (1967), both included in the book Felicidade Clandestina (1971). In addition to the short stories, the chronicle "Pertencer" (Belonging), published in 1968 in Clarice Lispector's column in the Jornal do Brasil and later included in the book A descoberta mundo (The Discovery of the World) (1971), and later included in the book A descoberta do mundo (1999). The aim is to examine how this process takes place in the two texts, highlighting their similarities and differences. Subsequently, by comparing the two short stories and the chronicle "Pertencer", the aim is to identify the basis for the transition from girl to woman in Clarice's short stories. The ultimate aim of the project is to propose hypotheses, based on the analysis of the chosen narratives, about Clarice Lispector's work as a whole, thus contributing to the study and understanding of Clarice Lispector's rich legacy.
