Abstract

In 2021, Brockington's research demonstrated that storytelling alleviates pain and improves the well-being of hospitalized children, based on analyses of psycholinguistic tasks and biomarkers related to well-being (oxytocin) and stress (cortisol). Currently, Abreu and Brockington are analyzing whether socioeconomic and cultural contexts, the type of text, and the content of books influence these biomarkers (project "Effects of Contact of Hospitalized Children with Fictional Narratives," process 2022/05782-6). The current project, conducted under the guidance of Abreu, aims to contribute to that research by comparing children's reactions to storytelling and cartoons, measured by changes in biomarkers. At this moment, the scholarship holder proposes an internship in Trento, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Emanuele Castano, to discuss and interpret the results obtained. Due to his expertise in our themes, this internship can help solidify the theoretical basis of the research in Brazil and provide new insights into the collected results.
