Abstract

Despite the growing expansion of literature on illegal markets, little research strays from normative approaches that link the existence and expansion of these markets to the lack of economic and urban development. Furthermore, there are still few empirical studies that focus on how these markets impact everyday life and socio-spatial dynamics. Therefore, in order to contribute to overcoming these gaps, this front of research in the Port of Santos aims to investigate the relationship between urban "centers" and "margins", through the analysis of the journey of cars, parts and cocaine in the largest port in the Latin America, the Port of Santos. To this end, we seek to analyze import and export data for auto parts, vehicles and cocaine in this port. Furthermore, the objective of this initiation is also, in addition to contributing to the development of this research front through the scholarship holder's participation in all stages of the study, collaborating with the team of more experienced researchers, to contribute to their development as a researcher.
