Abstract

The following project aims to investigate the ways of thinking about the political offered by the phenomenological ontology of Being and Nothingness. In his magnum opus, Sartre develops ontological notions of great importance for his entire philosophical system, which seem unavoidable for the political thinking of the French existentialist. In this sense, it is the search for a foundation that guides Sartre's thinking in its genesis. With this in mind, the central concept to be analyzed is undoubtedly what is meant by freedom. It is therefore necessary to start from a perspective that will be based on a concept of freedom that is not only grounded in ontology, but which appears as an ontological requirement in Sartre's system and which, in this way, should guide the author's political thought. It is therefore based on the hypothesis that, by turning our eyes to the ontology developed in his magnum opus, we will find a rich path to understanding the philosopher's political thinking. Finally, this project will seek to find and elucidate the genesis of Jean-Paul Sartre's political thought, with the aim of understanding whether it is possible to find, in the ontology developed in the work published in 1943, a reasonable way of thinking about the political in Sartrian existentialism.
