Abstract

The final years of elementary school coincide with the beginning of adolescence and accompany stages of identity structuring, exploration of possibilities and interests, forming bases for a future life project. Scientific evidences about school engagement suggests this variable has influence over academic achievement and interests structuring, although there is no consensus on it. This project aims to map the motivational inclinations and the level of school engagement in adolescents in the eighth and ninth grades of elementary school in public schools from a city in the interior of Sao Paulo, verifying the possible association between these variables and sex, school achievement and the Basic Education Development Index (IDEB) from the institutions. This is an empirical cross-sectional study, with descriptive-interpretative and correlational analyzes, using psychological evaluation instruments and sociodemographic indicators. We aim to examine 200 volunteers, students in eighth and ninth grade of elementary school, from both sexes, from 13 to 15 years old, from schools with different Basic Education Development Index levels (high and low) from Ribeirão Preto. After due formal authorization, the students will answer the Quadridimentional Scale of Students Involvement in School (EAE-E4D) and the Berufsbilder Test (BBT-Br), in both its versions, applied inside the classroom. The instruments will be evaluated according to its respective technical manuals, constituting the data base which will be complemented with the student's grades (school achievement). The results will be analyzed in a descriptive and interpretative way, carrying out inferential analyzes according to sex, school achievement and the school's level on the educational index. Correlational analyzes between the focused variables shall also be made, respecting the distribution of the results obtained. The empirical findings will bring relevant information about possible associations between motivational/interests structure, school engagement, school achievement and school characteristics, useful elements for reflecting about possible impacts of those variables on school practices and the promotion of the students integral development.
