Abstract

The research project focuses on the analysis of what could be called Graciliano Ramos' "political writings". They are chronicles and journalistic articles, manuscripts of speeches, commentaries scattered through the letters he has sent, the exposition of the travel to the USSR, among other texts which, taken together, foreshadow a significant potential to enhance the writer's activity in this domain. The work's proposal is based upon the direct confrontation of the vast material placed in the Graciliano Ramos Archive, kept by IEB-USP. Initially, a thorough exam will be held on the collection's available documents, constantly maintaining the elected cutout, that is, the political content of the writings, aiming to organize them. From this broad survey, will be selected a corpus of texts that represent the author's thinking and political praxis so that, subsequently, a profound study of this sampling can be conducted. Along this course, the book "Viagem" (1954), whose manuscript is at IEB, assumes a prominent position, given that it is able to provide a retrospective reading of Graciliano's political trajectory. The major purpose is, once this share of Ramos' least known production is systematized, to illuminate an aspect that has been scarcely explored on the investigations about the author, contributing to reestablish its due importance. The products of this research will consist of papers, to be submitted to regarded publications of the field of study; and a rigorously annotated selection of Graciliano Ramos' political writings, to be published as a book, accompanied by a more consistent critical essay regarding the topic.
