Abstract

In this project, I propose to produce a short film of places of deindustrialization in central neighborhoods in São Paulo and Santiago, Chile, from the perspective of the textile industry - to better understand how our societies confront their past and face environmental, economic and social changes. The idea is to articulate two narratives: the first one, referring to the past, about the process of deindustrialization with the closure of textile factories from the 1980s onwards in the context of the opening up of the economy to foreign markets. The second, in the present, focuses on the work of seamstresses nowadays in central neighborhoods. I propose to deepen the theoretical and methodological instruments of artistic research from an interdisciplinary nature, between art and visual anthropology, with the aim of developing a method of audiovisual production with archival and field materials.The purpose of this application is to continue this research in the United States, between December 2024 and January 2025, at Fordham University, with the supervision of Prof. Dr. Carl Fischer to do the montage of the audiovisual essay.
