Abstract

Despite the incumbents' significant lead, the average re-election rate for federal deputies in Brazil is approximately 55 percent. While previous research has focused mainly on campaign financing and budget amendments used by MPs, this project proposes that subnational party organizations play a crucial role in influencing re-election decisions and electoral success within Brazil's open-list proportional system. The research will explore how these organizations shape candidates' electoral strategies and influence electoral outcomes, opening up new avenues of understanding in the interface of two party arenas: electoral and organizational.
