Abstract The São Francisco River Integration Project with the Northern Northeast Hydrographic Basins is a water infrastructure project that aims to carry out animal and human watering, as well as assist in the social and economic development of the Brazilian semi-arid region, particularly in the states of Ceará, Pernambuco, Paraíba and Rio Grande do Norte. Among the areas that will receive the waters of "Velho Chico", we highlight the hydrographic basins of the Salgado (Ceará) and Apodi (Rio Grande do Norte) rivers, starting from the Norte IV axis, Apodi branch. In this sense, the objective of the project is to analyze the socio-environmental vulnerability of the municipalities belonging to the stretch that will receive these waters and how the arrival of the waters will influence changes in the local landscape. For this to occur satisfactorily, it will be necessary to identify and characterize the physical-human systems, based on a geosystemic methodological proposal, considering the environmental variables related to the physical (geomorphology, geology, hydrography, soils, vegetation, climate) and human (agricultural production) environment. , urban clusters, industries), for the purpose of compartmentalizing the basin into geoenvironmental units; diagnose and evaluate the main environmental and socioeconomic impacts and damages of the basin occupation processes; identify, map and prepare proposals for the organization of socioeconomic and environmental indicators necessary to achieve the socio-environmental vulnerability of the area under study, in order to maintain local sustainability; build a geographic database - BDG aiming to organize information on the physical and anthropogenic environment of the river basins under study; propose guidelines for territorial planning, aiming to mitigate environmental impacts and promote environmental conservation arising from the integration of basins. It is expected that the product designed in this proposal will help public managers in decision-making, presenting a future scenario for the region that, once the water arrives, could change its landscape, economic, social, cultural and environmental scenario.
