Abstract

Objective: To investigate how social participation and community support influence depressive symptoms in older people. Method: A cross-sectional and analytical study, will be carried out with older people living in Campinas. Participants will be assessed for the presence of depressive symptoms (Geriatric Depression Scale), community support (Perceived Community Support Questionnaire), and social participation (through questions about visiting friends and family, volunteer work, going to public places, and organized social activities). The Chi-Square or Fisher Test and Poisson Multiple Regression will be used to analyze the data. Expected results: The study may reveal how social participation and community support influence the emotional well-being of participants, guiding the development of preventive and promotional measures for the mental health of this group.
