Abstract

Gravitational-wave astronomy is a young science, and yet its advent is quickly moving towards precision astrophysics. Due to the employment of a technique called matched filtering, detections rely crucially on previous knowledge of the waveform, which in turn is determined by detailed knowledge of the source dynamics. So far no deviation from general relativity has been observed, and as observations become more and more precise, increasingly more powerful methods are required to derive more precise waveforms. Such is the case of non-relativistic general relativity, an effective field theory approach to the 2-body problem. In the present project, we intend to compute within this method conservative and dissipative contributions coming from hereditary processes involving nonlinearities in arbitrary multipole moments.
