Abstract

The success of the installation of osseointegrated implants depends on an effective anchorage of these components to the bone maxillary tissue and of a periimplant biological sealing. These events are directly related to the adhesion and metabolism of bone cells and oral mucosa cells to the implants surface as also the response of these cells to an inflammatory stimulus. The incidence of failures on the installation of these implants in the oral cavity may be related to an increased expression of matriz metalloproteinases (MMPs). Physiologically, these enzymes act as collagenases remodeling periimplant tissue, however, the overexpression of MMPs may result in impaired healing. Among the factors related to the exacerbation of MMPs synthesis and activity is the prolonged inflammatory phase that may be caused by microorganisms and anti-reabsorptive drugs. Therefore, adjuvant therapies are necessary for the resolution of inflammatory phase and acceleration of periimplant repair. Among them, the use of bioflavonoids have demonstrated positive effects on osteoblasts and gingival fibroblasts, by positive regulation of proliferation and negative regulation of gene expression and synthesis of pro-inflammatory mediators. MMPs are endogenously regulated by tissue inhibitors called TIMPs. Therefore, the balance between synthesis of MMPs and TIMPs maintains the tissue homeostasis and repair/ remodeling process. Another strategy suitable strategy on the control of MMPs would be the increase of TIMPs. The aim of this study will be to evaluate the use of hydrogels containing different compounds on the modulation of expression, synthesis and activity of metalloproteinases in bone tissue tridimensional cell culture model. Data will be statistically analyzed considering its distribution, homogeneity and homocedasticity.
