Abstract

Introduction: This research is part of the critical context of the global outbreak of COVID-19, which emerged in Wuhan, China, at the end of 2019, and quickly evolved into a pandemic. Since then, the scientific community has directed considerable efforts to understand the various manifestations of the disease, with Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) being an area of particular interest. The trajectory of the pandemic highlights the need for comprehensive investigations that explore renal outcomes in patients affected by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The purpose of this study is to analyze in detail the recovery of kidney function in patients after COVID-19 infection, focusing on a multidimensional approach that incorporates laboratory markers, epidemiological data and clinical assessments. Given the dynamic scenario of the pandemic, it is imperative to understand the factors that influence the evolution of kidney injuries, especially in individuals who faced ARF during the course of the infection. The research aims to not only fill gaps in existing knowledge, but also provide fundamental insights to optimize therapeutic strategies and promote a more precise and effective approach to post-kidney infection management in patients with COVID-19.Objectives: The main objective is to evaluate the progression of kidney disease in patients post-COVID-19 infection, analyzing markers of kidney disease progression, need for dialysis and survival. Secondary objectives include the assessment of associated conditions, such as new hypertension, new diabetes, obesity, and thromboembolic events after hospital discharge. The research aims to create a detailed overview of the evolution of kidney function in patients hospitalized for COVID-19, covering different treatment units.Methodology: The research will include patients diagnosed with COVID-19 and ARI, submitted to evaluation by the nephrology service and who were discharged from hospital with outpatient follow-up. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were established, and data collection will occur through electronic medical records and laboratory analysis.Expected Results: The research is expected to provide an in-depth understanding of whether or not kidney function recovers in patients post-COVID-19 infection, identifying markers of kidney disease progression and senescence. The results may contribute to optimized treatment strategies and long-term clinical monitoring.Justification: The work aims to fill gaps in the understanding of renal repercussions after COVID-19 infection, using clinical, laboratory and epidemiological data. Comprehensive analysis of renal outcomes and the role of biomarkers will provide valuable data to guide clinical practice and future research in the area. (AU)
