Abstract

This scientific initiation project aims to explore the study of error correction and mitigation techniques in quantum computers, a fundamental aspect for the practical viability of quantum computing given its inherent susceptibility to errors. We will cover everything from basic concepts of information and quantum computing, such as understanding quantum logic gates and quantum circuits, to error correction techniques, with an emphasis on surface codes, and error mitigation strategies, including Zero Noise Extrapolation ( ZNE), Probabilistic Error Cancellation (PEC), and modern Error Mitigation techniques via Tensor Networks. Using Qiskit, a framework developed by IBM, we will implement these techniques in quantum circuit simulations to understand their applicability and limitations. Through this study, we intend to consolidate theoretical and practical knowledge in error correction and mitigation, contributing to the advancement of quantum computing towards robust and reliable systems.
