Abstract

This work proposes to investigate the chemical properties of ionized gas in starburst galaxies in the [YMV2007]2116 cluster, exploring the relationships between metallicity and the environment. Our goal is to advance the understanding of how internal and external processes interact to modify the chemical evolution of galaxies in high-density regions. We will use spectroscopic data from the Data Release 17 of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS, DR17; \citealt{2022ApJS..259...35A}), made available by the MPA/JHU group. The main objectives include determining the metallicity distribution of the ionized gas in galaxies and identifying possible correlations with morphology and location within the cluster, evaluating the role of processes such as ram-pressure stripping and gravitational interactions in the chemical evolution of galaxies in different cluster regions, and contrasting the chemical properties of cluster galaxies with those of field galaxies at similar redshifts to quantify the environmental impact on galaxy evolution. This scientific initiation project also aims to train the student in essential techniques for studying the evolution of galaxy clusters, providing the necessary astrophysical foundation to interpret results related to the chemical abundances of starburst galaxies.
