Abstract

Social ignorance of basic water and effluent treatment processes leads to collective behavior that is detrimental to the application of these technologies. In order to minimize this damage, environmental education actions based on practical activities are proving to be favorable. Therefore, the aim of this project is to investigate the impact that environmental education and technology dissemination actions have on the collective awareness and continuing education of regular school teachers. To this end, an ecological space and a wastewater treatment plant, both located in the municipality of Gavião Peixoto-SP, Brazil, will be used for visits by students and the general community, with the aim of disseminating knowledge about emerging contaminants in particular. Public school teachers will be trained in this project to disseminate the practice in municipal and/or state schools and a TT-3 fellow will be trained to meet the demands of monitored visits and experimental data collection. At the end of the project, the impact in terms of raising awareness among students, the general community and trained teachers will be quantified by means of the products generated, educational progress and collective community participation.
