Abstract

This project aims to conduct a systematic literature review on the relationship between fine particulate matter (PM2.5) exposure and health inequalities. PM2.5 inhalation is a global issue associated with various respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, and its distribution is not homogeneous, disproportionately affecting people in situations of vulnerability. The study seeks to understand how socio-economic and racial factors, access to healthcare services, and public policies influence the impacts of this exposure. The research will be conducted at the University of Surrey with the Global Centre for Clean Air Research (GCARE). The methodology involves bibliometric, semantic, and content analysis of scientific articles collected from Web of Science and Scopus databases. In addition to the systematic review, the project will organise a workshop in partnership with the Guildford Living Lab to exchange knowledge about PM2.5 and its effects on public health. The expected results aim to contribute to the field of environmental justice and health, supporting more effective policies to mitigate the impacts of PM2.5 on different populations. The international research placement will enhance the scholar's academic skills, strengthening scientific cooperation between Brazilian and international institutions.
