Abstract

This international research internship project aims to develop theoretical contributions capable of supporting empirical research on reparations in cases of deaths in custody within Latin American contexts marked by transitional justice processes. To this end, the project seeks to: a) review intellectual production and systematize the work of researchers from the Centre de droit comparé et internationalisation du droit at ISJPS on the construction of a Latin American legal framework for addressing serious human rights violations; b) map decisions and publications produced within the Inter-American Human Rights System regarding reparation measures for deaths in custody; c) identify and evaluate the production of innovative reparation measures from a gender perspective; d) produce units of analysis in case studies based on the theoretical framework outlined during the research internship. The proposal is thus justified by the potential for dialogue with Latin American research developed in partnership with France on reparations for serious human rights violations and by the construction of a theoretical framework that supports the empirical findings of case studies on deaths in custody within the doctoral research.
