Abstract

This project aims to investigate the editions of the newspaper O Homem do Povo, in circulation during the period from March to April 1931, in order to understand the importance and reverberations of the publication, although in its ephemeral period of publication, the debates about art, focusing on theater scene arts, literature and Brazilian politics of the early twentieth century. To this end, it will be taken by analysis the ideological and revolutionary currents that constitute the critical-satirical character of the vehicle, as well as the emblematic figures in charge of the editions, such as Oswald de Andrade, Patrícia Galvão (Pagu) and Queiroz Lima, with contributions from Astrojildo Pereira, and his participation in the newspaper, in the light of three main columns: Palco Tela and Picadeiro, A Mulher do Povo and A cidade, o Paiz, o planeta, which foster discussions on theater, culture, feminism and politics. O Homem do Povo, established at the beginning of the second phase of Modernism, during a period of maturity of the ideas that guided the Week of Modern Art, is an experimental vehicle - contributing factor to the free manifestations of critical thoughts of its writers - and dialogues with artistic and political discussions of the 1930s, such as the capitalist crisis of 1929, the crises in the industrial and coffee sectors, the strengthening of communist ideas in Brasil and in the world, the critical anthropophagy and the subversion of the ideals of order and progress.
