Abstract

To establish the association of the autohemotherapy technique (AHT) with total unilateral mastectomy surgical procedures in dogs, this project aims to conduct serial hematological analyses preoperative and postoperative to report potential modifications in the Mononuclear Phagocyte System (MPS) following the therapy. During venipuncture, blood rich in carbon dioxide undergoes physicochemical changes, being recognized by the body at the time of application as an immune system activator, suggesting that macrophages are recruited through the release of alarmins, which are pro-inflammatory cytokines present actively or passively in damaged cells and tissues. Thus, relative and absolute leukometric examinations may indicate an increase in the number of circulating monocytes at certain times and a decrease at others, specifically due to tissue migration and transformation into macrophages. Therefore, it is expected to confirm and correlate the response of MPS recruitment in female dogs subjected to the application of autohemotherapy in conjunction with total unilateral mastectomy surgery.
