Effect of glaze firing protocol and artificial staining on optical characteristics (color, translucency and contrast ratio) of CAD/CAM ceramics

Abstract

The technological revolution in Dentistry has made it possible to obtain increasingly predictable and satisfactory clinical results, especially with the use of CAD/CAM technology. This tool has stood out in oral rehabilitation for providing greater durability, precision and aesthetic excellence. This study aims to evaluate the effects of the glaze firing protocol, as well as the impacts of artificial staining, on the optical properties of CAD/CAM ceramics. For this purpose, the IPS e.max CAD, CEREC Tessera, Celtra Duo and VitaBlocs Suprinity ceramic blocks will be analyzed, which will be subjected to different glaze application protocols. Artificial staining will be performed by immersion in coffee, simulating continuous consumption over the course of a year. The specimens will be distributed into four experimental groups (n=8): conventional glaze (GC), conventional glaze with two firings (GC2), extended glaze firing (EG) and extended firing with two firings (EG2). The optical properties evaluated will include color, translucency and contrast ratio, measured by means of a spectrophotometer. The analyses will be performed at two times: immediately after firing the glaze (before artificial staining), and after staining with coffee. The data obtained will be analyzed by means of appropriate statistical tests, according to the distribution of the results. (AU)
