Abstract

Introduction: Tuberculosis is a socially determined disease and represents a major public health problem. One of the groups most affected by the disease is the homeless population, which has a 54 times greater risk of illness and worse treatment outcomes compared to the general population. Therefore, understanding the aspects related to the occurrence of the disease is essential to support specific strategies for this vulnerable group. Objective: To analyze the factors associated with tuberculosis illness in the homeless population. Material and Methods: Case-control study, which will be conducted in the city of São Paulo. Thirty-eight homeless people undergoing monitoring and treatment for tuberculosis (cases) and 76 people without a previous diagnosis (controls) will be included. Data collection will occur through face-to-face interviews, with the application of a structured questionnaire, in Reference Centers for the Homeless Population and in health services that provide care for this population. Data analysis will be performed using unconditional logistic regression. Expected Results: Identify aspects related to the occurrence of tuberculosis in the homeless population and contribute to the improvement of health actions and policies aimed at this population.
