Abstract

This international research internship project aims to explore the relationship between gender, geographic space, and cartography by analyzing how gender influences the production and representation of geographic space. Through a comparative study between Spain and Brazil, the project seeks to understand how maps are conceptualized and produced in Spanish and Brazilian geographic science, as well as how gender relations are represented in them. Starting from the understanding that knowledge is situated and that traditional cartography often reproduces gender invisibilities, a critical feminist approach is essential. To achieve this, the project will include an extensive literature review, discussions with the international supervisor, fieldwork, and interviews with leading researchers on the topic. The goal is to identify the epistemologies underlying cartographic production in Gender Geography and analyze how gender relations materialize in the territory of Barcelona and, consequently, how they are represented in maps.
