Abstract

The proposed research internship abroad, to be carried out between October 2025 and February 2026 at the National University of San Martín, aims to investigate the intersections between race and class in the experiences of Black men and women in Buenos Aires between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. By studying the participation of these individuals in dance association spaces, the project seeks to analyze the role occupied by the Afro-Porteño community in the world of labor and the ways in which their discourses of identity and political struggle were shaped by class issues. To this end, the project includes documentary research in Argentine archives and a historiographical debate, with the aim of fostering connections and dialogue between the fields of Labor History and studies dedicated to the Afro-descendant population in Argentina.
