Abstract

Gauge/gravity duality gives a holographic map between a gravitational theory in a background spacetime and a field theory at the boundary, in which one side is perturbative and the other non-perturbative. Although it has mostly been applied to calculations in field theory, it can be applied to describe a strongly-coupled phase of cosmology, giving "holographic cosmology". A lot of work in the phenomenological version of McFadden and Skenderis has shown that it fits current CMBR data and solves problems as well as $\Lambda-CDM+$inflation. In this thesis, we will first consider non-Gaussianities coming from cosmological 3-point functions calculable in field theory. Next, we will consider the embedding of generic models of cosmological "reheating" into supergravity, and finally of reheating and Standard Model constructions into string theory models, thus hopefully moving into the area of true "top-down" predictions.
