Abstract The use of plastics in single-use packaging has significantly contributed to the accumulation of polymer waste in the environment. Moreover, driven by increasing consumer awareness of environmental issues and the need for systems that enhance food preservation, biodegradable active packaging has emerged as a strategy to promote greater sustainability in food storage and safety. In this context, this research proposes the development of a film-forming blend composed of pea protein and citrus pectin, evaluating different ratios between these natural polymer matrices. The most promising formulation in terms of mechanical strength will be further enhanced with tannic acid and an oligomeric derivative of limonene, both possessing intrinsic antioxidant and antimicrobial properties, as well as potential to improve water vapor barrier, UV light protection, and other mechanical properties. The goal is to obtain a multifunctional film with potential for future application in single-use active food packaging. (AU) | |
